Jesús L. Lobo

PhD candidate

Jesús López Lobo (Txus) is currently based in Bilbao (Spain) and working at Tecnalia as Data Analyst/Scientist. He attended the University of Deusto and the National Distance Education University (UNED), receiving his BSc+MSc in Computer Science and his MSc in Advanced Artificial Intelligence respectively. Currently he is a PhD candidate at EHU/UPV University in Artificial Intelligence, applying online/batch learning to data streams in non-stationary environments (concept drift). His PhD thesis is supported by the recent Joint Research Lab initiative, a collaboration agreement between Tecnalia, UPV/EHU, and BCAM. As an expert in stream data mining and concept drift, he is member of an international excellence group at Tecnalia (GEI-Big Data) composed of experienced Data Scientists. His main research interests refer to the incremental learning in the presence of concept drift, as well as ensembling and evolutionary computation. He usually deals with real problems such as robotics planning, electricity fraud/theft detection, EEG signals to identify fatigue/workload of pilots in the aircrafts, customer segmentation & target marketing for car insurance companies, educational data mining, and more. He designs predictive/descriptive models working with the latest Machine Learning and Optimization algorithms in order to find the most suitable solution for the target problem. As another relevant part of his everyday research work, he also writes manuscripts for scientific journals and conferences. Not forgetting the leisure side, he also loves to go outdoors to surf all over the globe.
