Ibai Laña

PhD candidate

Ibai Laña lives in Bilbao and works at Tecnalia as a Data Analyst. He received his B.Sc. degree in Computer Engineering from Deusto University, Spain, in 2006, and the M.Sc. degree in Advanced Artificial Intelligence from UNED, Spain, in 2014. He is currently a senior researcher at TECNALIA (Spain), and a student pursuing his PhD at the Department of Communications Engineering of the University of the Basque Country (UPV/EHU). His research interests fall within the intersection of intelligent transportation systems, machine learning, traffic data analysis and data science. He has dealt with road traffic forecasting problems, where he has applied machine learning models and evolutionary algorithms to obtain longer term and more accurate predictions. He also has interest in other traffic related challenges, such as origin-destination matrix estimation or point of interest and trajectory detection. Working with large volumes of data, like traffic flow measurements or phone call detail records, has lead him to have a good command of big data processing tools and noSQL databases.
